You ""Captain Jack -- Wild Hunter of of the Juniata" sounds like most all the stories told in the lower Shenandoah of Captain Jack Ashby (1907-1797) of the Second Virginia Rangers. Certainly the part about his involvement with Braddock's Expedition is well documented on his grave in Winchester, and by his being awarded a watch by the House of Burgesses for bringing the word to Winchester, plus numerous stories told of him in Fort Ashby, WV, where there is a museum /fort honoring him, and which has a photo of the watch.
